History
Hamid Chara Army Goodwill School, Chandigam, Lolab was established in the year 2000 under Operation Sadbhavana, with the noble objective of promoting education, social upliftment, and holistic development in the remote and border areas of the Lolab Valley. Since its inception, the school has steadily grown in stature and scope, reflecting the Indian Army’s enduring commitment to the welfare and progress of the local population.
The school is administered by 28 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion (JAK RIF) under the guidance and support of Headquarters 8 Sector Rashtriya Rifles and Headquarters Counter Insurgency Force (K). Over the years, the school has been upgraded in a phased manner and was formally recognized by the Jammu & Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) during 2015–16, with classes extended up to Class XII.
At present, the school caters to nearly 700 students from Nursery to Class XII, drawing learners not only from Chandigam but also from surrounding areas such as Sogam, Gundimancher, Lalpora, Diver, Tekipora, Wowura, Krusan, Khumriyal, and Badibera. The school is affiliated from Nursery to Class XII with JKBOSE, ensuring quality education aligned with national and state educational standards.
The school enjoys a strong reputation for its structured curriculum, effective teaching methodologies, and well-developed infrastructure, including computer and science laboratories. To promote inclusive growth and community empowerment, a significant number of local teachers and administrative staff are employed, further strengthening public trust and goodwill.
Beyond academics, the school places strong emphasis on multifaceted personality development through sports activities, cultural programmes, national celebrations, educational excursions, and co-curricular initiatives. With nominal fees, the school ensures access to quality education for all sections of society.
The establishment and success of the school stand as a testament to the Army’s broader vision—not only to ensure security, but also to win hearts and minds by investing in education, peace, and the future of the youth of the Lolab Valley.
